Whenever I paint or sketch or doodle, I default to the beach--the ocean, palm trees, sunsets. Perhaps it's an ode to my LA roots where, ironically, although I didn't go to the beach frequently, I always wanted to be by the ocean.
Freedom. Turbulent, unpredictable monstrosity followed by serenity. It's a majestic wonder filled with even more majestic life forms. It led to the "discovery" of regions all around the world. It led to the demise of hundreds of populations, but it was also a source of joy and sustenance. Even though this canvas isn't blank, the ocean is a blank canvas.
Yet, even with that, it's not that deep.
